Beak malocclusion can happen for many reasons in birds. For this young #chicken it was likely congenital, meaning she was born with this deformation. Other causes at a young age could be related to physical trauma. Parrots AKA psittacines can also get beak malocclusion. For most birds this means chronic beak trims for life.

I think squirrels are super interesting critters! And they're so adaptable! I'm Examining a wildlife squirrel brought in by a Good Samaritan. This IS NOT how I recommend handling wildlife and it is not a good sign that this poor kiddo is so content in my hands. Healthy wildlife patients are aggressive and dangerous as they should be. Please do not attempt to handle Wildife and be very careful even with sick and debilitated individuals. I'm not sure what's wrong with this fella and our overnight Doctor sent him to a wildlife rehabilitator last night. #wildvet #wildlifemedicine #vetmed #squirrels #squirrelmedicine #veterinary #veterinarian

Tortoises make great pets and great props…JK!!! This is one very cooperative tortoise tho. Sulcatta tortoises often hide in their shells and LITERALLY NOTHING can get them out. It can actually be dangerous if you're examining them and then they tuck in as they can trap your finger(s) which can honestly be a legit medical emergency. #wildvet #herp #herpvet #reptile #reptilevet #vetmed #veterinary #tortoise #tortoisemedicine #exotics #exoticanimalmedicine #exoticvet

Dusty is the best lil doggie in the world and has an enormous personality packed into a tiny 7 lb package. He totally loves the camera and is always hammin' it up hahaha

#chinchilla #wildvet #vet #rodent #fracture This was a neat case. Take a look at the radiograph…what a nasty radius AND ulna fracture! This poor 3 month old Chinchilla was being a crazy little rodent and accidentally got his arm caught in his enclosure the wrong way and busted up his lil antebrachium (forearm) pretty good. The fracture is easy to see but look closely and you can see the wide "gray" area around the break-this tells me that the body has already set up a severe inflammatory response to the injury and is already beginning to lay down thick fibrotic scar tissue in an effort to heal the injury. Eventually new bone will be laid down, referred to as a callus, which will further and permanently stabilize the fracture site. An advantage this youngster has is that he will heal much faster than an adult because of the exuberant periosteum (tissue surrounding the bone) young animals have. Due to the size of the animal and stress placed by coaptation (stabilization via bandaging or surgery) I've decided to let this kiddo heal on his own by having his owners restrict activity and give anti-inflammatory & pain medications. As long as he doesn't disrupt the fracture site too much it should heal on it's own. Now PLEASE don't take this mean that if your pet has a possible fracture you do nothing for it-DEFINITELY AND IMMEDIATELY take your pet to a veterinarian to get the care that it needs. Thanks for viewing!

When I was a young kid, I had an #iguana named Pete. Since then, I've had a total soft spot for them, and this guy is SO BEAUTIFUL it made me miss my old friend!
