In memory of the migrants

While I walk down the stairs at the station I think of you.
Its like thinking of someone I know very well.
Because I’ve met you in my thoughts.
I’ve held your hand in mine, and felt it’s warmth.
I saw your eyes and saw the pain in it.
Your voice was like a clear waterfall,
like the teardrops falling down when you told me about your dream of your future.
You had the spirit!
You wanted to show this world that a guy from the slums isn’t just someone without education, but someone who wants to fight for his education.
No obstacle was too big!
You’ve escaped your country in war,
left your mum in tears..
promised your dad that you would return to give them a future.
You thought the boat was the only way to escape.
You jumped in,
and left your life behind.
The thought of freedom made you jump into the boat.
But the dream of a future turned into one big nightmare.
The only thing you’ve seen since days is water.
Your back hurts.
The boat isn’t safe any longer.
The only sound you hear is people crying.
Until the boat sinks…
‘Till you feel you can’t swim
‘Till you feel you’re tired of swimming
‘Till you feel your lungs are filled with water
‘Till you feel you can’t breathe anymore.
The only way to escape this nightmare is to let go….
And you let it go….
You’ve left us.
You’re gone now.
We can’t find you.
We can’t say goodbye.
The only thing I can do is detach my hand from yours…
